Support Maui Fire Recovery Efforts

On August 8th, 2023 multiple fires blew through parts of Maui affecting Lahaina and parts of Kula. Hundreds have lost their homes and many have lost family members. Being an artist from Maui, this was devastating to watch and hear.  The fire caused billions of dollars in damage and recovery efforts continue on. If you are able to, here are a few ways you can support the Maui Communities.

• Directly Support ʻOhana. You can now support families directly by donating to their Venmo’s or Go Fund Me accounts. Below are a few places where you donate directly via Instagram. @HelpMauiRise, @Lahaina_Ohana_Venmo, @Kula_Ohana_Vemno Please take the time to read the ‘Ohana stories and get to know them. 

 

• Consider donating to organizations working on the ground in Maui such as: Maui Humane Society Chef Hui, Nā Aikāne Cultural Center/ Hui Aloha ʻĀina o Lahaina

 

• Support the  Hawaii Community Foundation’s Maui Strong Fund and the Maui Mutual Aid Fund (Link in their bio).

 

• Ceremony & Pule. If you are unable to provide monetary donations ceremony & pule (prayer) is always welcomed.

 

• Stay Informed. Pay attention to leadership in Lahaina and support communities defending ʻāina & wai (land & water). You may think these issues donʻt apply to you, but if you live in Hawaiʻi, they do. Read up & stay informed! @OfficialLahainaStrong, @kakoo_haleakala, @kaneokana,  @ainamomona and @TagnawaForMaui are great pages/organizations to follow! 

 

• Mālama our Maui Fire Fighters & First Responders. If you know someone who is a part of MFD or is a first responder, check in on them, check in on their families, make them a meal, spend time with them, etc. Continue to mālama them. You can also provide direct monetary donations to the Fire Fighters and Ocean Safety Officers who lost their homes in the Lahaina. @Mfd_Lahaina_Ohana.
